The Sewing Machine House – A Hamburg Icon
If you take a look around Hamburg, away from the mainstream of the large shopping streets, you'll find a wealth of unique shops and establishments hidden away. Many of these have been successfully thriving for several generations and always impress with their uniqueness, individuality, and exceptional personal service.
One of these special "Hamburg gems" is undoubtedly "Das Nähmaschinenhaus" located on Lange Reihe in the vibrant St. Georg district.
While bars, restaurants, and shops in the neighborhood sprout up and sometimes change ownership monthly, this small, refined store has stood the test of time with its unique and high-quality sewing machines for three generations. In the half-timbered house built in 1621, all hobby seamstresses and professionals can expect concentrated expertise and the best advice when it comes to the art of tailoring. The 13-member team, comprised of passionate seamstresses, takes all the time needed to explain even the most complicated sewing machine, the most intricate pattern, or the most refined stitch. This creates joy and inspiration.
There is nothing in the realm of tailoring supplies that you won’t find here. The product range includes sewing and overlock machines, as well as ironing and embroidery machines, sewing furniture, and comprehensive accessories. The standard assortment features well-known brands like SINGER, PFAFF, and Baby Lock, and bargain hunters can also delight in a selection of used machines.
As service is the top priority here, customers receive not just the machine but also a service package that includes training and discounts on threads and haberdashery. You definitely won't get that from Amazon. On the top floor of the historic building, adorned with impressive ceiling paintings and stucco, is the sewing school.
A true Hamburg institution with heart and soul.
